Wednesday July 6, 2011 - Our Cruise Meals

Well, it's back to the real life and reality. Our Disney Cruise was amazingly fantastic and wonderful. I'm not exaggerating in the least. Disney really makes you feel like you're special and makes an effort to provide a magical experience at each turn.

I started out doing pretty great as far as food choices. Here were a few of my flubs:

steak fries ice cream cones (the ice cream tasted like ice milk....couldn't resist) pizza chocolate cake with chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache. petit fours and small desserts mocha cappuccino fast food on the way to Port Canaveral fast food on the way home to Mississippi

I'm going to post some of the most delicious meals from the cruise, but I'm not listing them all.

The typical breakfast was far away from my bagel and coffee. Most mornings I had eggs, a piece of link sausage, some asparagus and fruit. There was only one morning that I gave into my weakness and got one of the small cinnamon rolls.

Lunch was either soup, veggies and a meat from the buffet restaurant or we got something fast from the upper deck walk up places. The offerings there were Panini sandwiches, roll-ups, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips, etc. I sampled almost everything throughout the week, except the chicken strips and roll-ups.

Dinner was an experience in and of itself. They serve you bread, soup or salad, appetizers, a main course, and then dessert. Here are some of my favorites.

I tried several things for the first time and this was one of them..........Veal Three Ways. I know one way was the whole piece. The second way was sort of like a pulled 'veal'. Goodness knows what the third way was......I still haven't figured that out.

This was some sort of pasta stuffed with a crab goo on the inside. It was great, but wouldn't have been near as good without the white sauce underneath. There actually needed to be more sauce, but I'm a southern biscuit sopper who loves something to roll my food around in.

You just can't go wrong with citrus marinated and then roasted chicken. It was a tad salty for my tastes, and I was missing the sweetness, but then again I'm the weirdo who puts Equal on my savory foods. The sweet potato baked "fries" were delicious. I'm going to make myself some of those soon. I was struggling with remembering to take a picture of the food at first, so some of these pictures are after I'd already started eating.

This was my favorite meal of the entire trip. It's Dijon crusted lamb cooked medium rare. The side dish was a scalloped potato cake, which was dry, but still yummy. The beans were flash boiled, then put onto the plate. Yes, the color is still bright green and pretty, but I can't stand green beans that aren't completely cooked to death. Picky much?

On the final night, I ordered the lamb again. Little did I know it was just recycled from the previous night. They renamed it something different and froo-froo sounding, but I'm not dumb. It was the same meal reheated. Same potato cake. Same green beans with the bacon wrapped to fool the eye, and the lamb was Dijon crusted, but off the bone. I think the only thing they added was the tomato chutney. Still delicious though, although the reheated lamb got sort of tough.

This was an appetizer. Steamed, then baked Asian dumplings with a crust, served with an Asian dumpling sauce. The veggies on the side were pickled. Everyone knows I think pickled anything is evil. I tried it, and it wasn't completely horrid. Still not my thing though.

The soups were delicious. I didn't choose a single salad because the soups were so good. Here were my two favorites.........Cauliflower soup and the Conch soup. Both were yummy.

Dessert on the Disney Dream = Heaven on a plate. Thankfully, they had no sugar added options, which I chose 95% of the time.

Chocolate cake with a caramel sauce, raspberry, and a chocolate candy served with a tad of whipped cream.

This was SOOOO good. It's a sugar free angel food cake with a strawberry compote. You'll notice the extra whipped cream. I asked our server to hook me up, since it looked like someone had dropped whipped cream on my plate on the way to actually putting a serving of whipped cream on someone else's plate.

This is one of the nights I strayed. The cappuccino mousse (far left) was sugar free. The strawberry shortcakeish thing (middle) was sugar free. The chocolate cake was a layer of cake, a layer of chocolate mousse and a top layer of chocolate ganache.......not sugar free. Then a chocolate meringue on the side. Best dessert of the trip.
This was our anniversary dessert, which they brought out after we'd already eaten dessert. Josh didn't mind, but I was stuffed and only took a bite of it. It was a heavenly bite though.
